Thanks for your interest in LanguageTool. Frankly, writing a statistical tagger is a major task, at least when you consider it will also need to be integrated in LT to be actually useful. I recommend starting with something easier, maybe writing a single error detection rule as XML or in Java. If you’re into AI, you could also work on error detection with AI, but that’s also a major task.
