False friends rules for Japanese/English

Hello,

First of all, thanks for developing such useful tool! :slight_smile:

I made a few false friends rules based on the Wikipedia page on false friends (as I’m not a fluent speaker of Japanese, maybe it would be better to do a double check before implementing them). Hope these rules turn to be useful to the project:

<rulegroup id="ABOUT">
    <rule>
      <pattern lang="en">
        <token>about</token>
      </pattern>

Hi,

thanks for your contribution! We currently don’t have a native Japanese speaker in our team. Do you know someone who could double-check your rules?

Regards
Daniel

Dear Daniel,

Sorry for not replying sooner.

I asked at hi-native forum and the rules seems to be OK, except for the smart and talent rules, which should be updated to:

<rulegroup id="SMART">
    <rule>
      <pattern lang="en">
        <token>smart</token>
      </pattern>
      <translation lang="ja">ι γŒγ„γ„</translation>
    </rule>

<rule>
      <pattern lang="ja">
        <token>γ‚ΉγƒžγƒΌγƒˆ</token>
      </pattern>
      <translation lang="en">slim</translation>
    </rule>
<rulegroup id="TALENT">
    <rule>
      <pattern lang="en">
        <token>talent</token>
      </pattern>
      <translation lang="ja">才能</translation>
    </rule>

<rule>
      <pattern lang="ja">
        <token>γ‚Ώγƒ¬γƒ³γƒˆ</token>
      </pattern>
      <translation lang="en">Celebrity</translation>
    </rule>

It also seems that ハーフ is a questionable word in Japanese culture, so maybe this commentary should be added to the rule.

Thanks, I’ve committed these so all new false friends will be part of LanguageTool 3.2, to be released at the end of the month. They will also be available tonight in the nightly build: Index of /snapshots/
