EG:
Maria, knowing from the last 3 years that Patricia always had treats available at the back-door, immediately went there, as they were always better than the store-bought crap that the Pattersons themselves had to offer.
PS “Had always treats” is too grammatically incorrect to even be considered a fix in any book.
