I get an error trying to download the large ngrams file for English. I get all the way to the end and get a failure notice. Maybe a bit torrent download or breaking the zip into about three files would be a big help.

Please try using a download helper. Any download helper should be able to continue an interrupted download. On Linux, you can also just use wget -c to continue a download.
