“That stuff gave us enough trouble the last time.”
“That stuff gave her rabies yesterday.”
“That stuff gave you a rash last week.”
While all these sentences are clearly in past tense, LT still demands that “gave” is replaced with the tense-inappropriate “give”.(and present tense requires “gives”, not “give”.)
Probably because there is ‘her’ behind ‘gave’.
