Issues with the Language Tool Add-on in Microsoft Word

Dear Language Tool Support,

I am writing to report an issue I have been experiencing lately with the Language Tool add-on in Microsoft Word. When I select the add-on to check for errors, it has recently stopped highlighting the incorrect words and navigating through the document as I click on the errors.

I searched the Language Tool forum and found others with the same issue. One post suggested a temporary fix: pressing “SHIFT + L + T” to access the previous version of the add-on, which works without errors. However, the old version is always replaced by the new, non-functional version, causing significant inconvenience.

The desktop version does not meet my needs in Word, as I require the error list feature. Additionally, it is slow and sometimes causes Word to crash. Is there a way to set the old version as the default, at least temporarily? Will there be a fix released soon to address this, as it is currently rendering the program unusable for me?

For your reference, I am using Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Microsoft Word 365 version 2501, LanguageTool add-on for Word version 1.0.1.0, and Language Tool for Desktop version 0.18.0.0.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Alcymar

@amonteiro, what’s your MS Word licence? The new MS Word add-in needs Office M365 subscription to work.

My license is Microsoft 365 Family.

Can you update your Word to 2502? I am able to use the add-in with it.

My version of Microsoft Word is already 2502, build 18526.20168, which is the latest release.

I have also noticed the following behavior: when Word is used with its default paragraph styles, the add-in works. However, when I use my document template with my personal styles, the add-in does not function as it should. I recorded a video demonstrating this behavior, with my personalized template on the left, which doesn’t work, and on the right, unformatted text with the default styles, which does work.

Hi @amonteiro,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We’ve shared your feedback with the relevant department and will follow up with an update as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please feel free to share any additional details or relevant information here

Thank you!
