I’m using Overleaf on a Firefox browser. I installed the LanguageTool extension (it is up-to-date), however, it is inactive when I’m using Overleaf. I’ve clicked “Open Extension” and refreshed the page. However, it keeps reverting to being off. I saw the recommendations to work in “Source (Legacy)” or “Rich Text”. However, I don’t have those toggle options in my Overleaf. My only toggle options are “Code Editor” and “Visual Editor”. I’d appreciate assistance so I can spell check my thesis!
Since you’re using the latest Overleaf interface, “Code Editor” and “Visual Editor” replaced the old “Source” and “Rich Text” modes. Unfortunately, LanguageTool often doesn’t work well in the “Code Editor.” Try using the Visual Editor—that’s where LanguageTool is most likely to work. If it still doesn’t activate, double-check if Overleaf is excluded in the LanguageTool extension settings or permissions in Firefox.

I’ve had this problem as of a few days ago. It was previously working.
Unfortunately, using the visual editor hasn’t helped with my issue and I don’t see any extension settings excluding Overleaf.
Hi everyone,
We’re currently experiencing some challenges with releasing certain bug fixes on Firefox, and possibly on Safari as well, which could cause issues with using LT on Overleaf. Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide a timeline for when this issue will be resolved.
In the meantime, we recommend using the LanguageTool browser extension on a browser other than Firefox or Safari for the best experience.
We apologize for the inconvenience and will keep this thread updated as soon as a fix is available.
Thank you for your understanding!
Thank you for the update, I appreciate the product and the work you do!
