LanguageTool in Word does not work at all

I’ve been using LT Premium with MS Word 2019 for a while. Since the last update a few weeks ago, it does not work at all.

The add-in loads normally, but it does not correct selected corrections in the text and does not jump to the appropriate place in the document.

Sometimes it will highlight spelling and grammar errors directly in the document, but unfortunately this does not work reliably either.

I got in touch with the customer service department on the 2nd of September and received the following reply:

"With the update, LanguageTool should continue to jump to the affected word in the text.
This works sporadically, but not as a rule.

Our developers have been informed about this and are already working on a fix".

It’s now nearly 5 weeks later and no improvement. This is really not OK for paying customers!

I have tried to reinstall the add-in several times, no change.

Copying the text into the web application is not possible due to formatting issues. Is there any chance of LT working again soon or can I try other solutions on my end?

Hi Katja,

Thank you for your message and we apologize for the inconvenience!

We will be happy to investigate the matter further.

Please send me the following information so that I can share it with our developers:

  • Your Microsoft Office version with build number (e.g. 16.89.1 (24091630))
  • Windows or macOS device and the corresponding version of the operating system
  • License information from Microsoft version (e.g. Microsoft 365 Subscription)

We understand that the situation is unsatisfactory and are therefore happy to offer a refund of the subscription.

Alternatively, the integration of the Windows desktop app for Word can be used:

Kind regards,
Ervins

This problem is still existing. This is with Microsoft® Word 2019 MSO (Versie 2409 Build 16.0.18025.20160) 64 bits on Win 11 (version 10.0.22631 build 22631) using the online LT word module (reporting version 1.0.1.0).

The Grammar Checker for Windows works, but lacks the functionality of listing all problems (as it reads from the screen).

Please solve this, a paid subscription is less useful this way

Hello,

I have exactly the same problem as the OP. It also happened when Word updated the LT add-on sometime in September.
Despite the errors in my text appearing on the right panel, clicking on them does not show or highlight the corresponding part in the original text…
In this condition, LT is simply unusable.

I just renewed my 2-year subscription, and I obviously hope this will be fixed soon.

Best regards

Hi ! I’m facing the exact same problem : the extension detects errors but does not correct it when the Accept button is pressed. And there is no way to roll back to a previous version of a Word add-in…
I’m using Word 2019, and the current LT add-in version is 1.0.1.0.
There is an other post on this forum about this issue : Languagetool not working in Word 2024
@dnaber do you have any inputs ?

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out, and apologies for the inconvenience.

The “new” Word-Add-in was developed based on the Office 365 subscription-based version.
Theoretically, it should work for all other versions as well, but as per our communications with Microsoft there appears a bug, and we hope for it to be resolved as soon as possible on their end.

Users affected by issues can open Word, initiate the Word-Add-in, click on the Sidebar (so the cursor is not in the text field of Word) and then press the shortcut “SHIFT + L +T” to initiate the old Word-Add-in.

Kind regards,
Ervins

same problem here. I installed a Word 365, okay. The new Version works. But…

  1. some errors, that was found before, are now not found (german)
  2. is there no option for just checking a part of the document like before?

Are you using the public API, or a local/custom LT server ?

I dont know. I installed the Plugin via Word. LT and Word are on newest version.
